'The calm and softly pulsating rhythms of the two
piano
cycles radiate a
feeling
of great tranquility and comfort'
(Georg Füchtner, Oberbayerisches Volksblatt, 22/3/2011)
Wandelung is a collaboration between the composer Vroni Holzmann and the fine artist Karl Sylvester. Over a period of ten years the artists have created a work mutually inspired by their compositions, poetry and painting. The compositions are released in recorded format by Synchrony Sounds and as a score publication by Europa Edition. The Launch of these will be part of the Wandelung Event which includes a visual arts installation and a live performance of two piano cycles.
Vroni Holzmann, originally from Germany, recently completed her Master of Music in Composition at Edinburgh University under the supervision of Professor Nigel Osborne. Many of her compositions have been performed to the public and her work was broadcast on Radio 3. Her compositions combine inventive minimalism with sustained emotional narratives.
Vroni is probably best known for her Street Piano Project – she has played piano in parks, streets and even floating through the canals of Venice on her tours around Europe. In Edinburgh you will have seen her playing ragtime piano in the Meadows. You may also know her for her Bavarian Tradition Show.
Karl Sylvester has a Master in Fine Art from The Edinburgh College of Art and has since relocated to Wales. Paintings of the countryside surrounding his new home have become part of this collaboration.
